Funeral Detail, Structure Fire, and Car Fire in a Garage
March 14, 2007
‘A’ shift firefighters were happy to see shift change this morning after a busy shift.
The shift started at 09:00 A.M. with a staff meeting. After the staff meeting, Station 2 firefighters as well as Chief Kiracofe, Chief Landi, and Lt. Johnson all reported to Taylor to honor Chief John Coates, former Travis County Fire Control and Hutto Fire Chief, who passed away March 9 at his home in Hutto.
After paying respects, the Station 2 firefighters left to return to district. On the way home, they were dispatched to assist the Cedar Park Fire Department with a 2 story residential structure that was on fire. The crew operated at that fire for approximately 1.5 hours and then were cleared to district.
At 06:50 A.M. the following morning, units from Jollyville, Sam Bass, Cedar Park, and Austin were dispatched to the Alexan at Rattan Creek apartments on Parmer Lane for smoke coming from a detatched garage. Jollyville Engine 34 arrived first and reported light smoke coming from a 4 stall vehicle garage that was detatched from the main apartment buildings. E34 placed a line on the ground and began to force entry as Jollyville Engine 38 arrived on scene to assist. Within moments, the door was forced and a minor car fire was discovered inside. It was quickly extinguished and no extension into the surrounding walls was found. Units returned to service in approximately 40 minutes.
