Lightning Causes House Fire

May 16, 2007

During the evening hours of May 15th, a sudden and powerful thunderstorm formed over the Jollyville area. The reports of lightning strikes in the area were numerous, and the short lived but violent storm did send bolts of lightning into several different buildings in the area.

One of those was a residence in Forrest North near Quilberry at Broadmeade. The residence was occupied at the time of the incident, and all of the occupants were able to escape unharmed.

‘A’ shift firefighters from both Jollyville engine companies as well as numerous volunteer firefighters responded to the scene. Equipment and personnel from the Austin Fire Department, the Cedar Park Fire Department, and the Sam Bass Fire Department all assisted the Jollyville units. Although Jollyville units were on scene for approximately 6 hours, the fire was placed under control in just over 30 minutes.
